Our Areas of Activity

SOLIDARITY FOR GUIDANCE AND THE FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY (SELP asbl) is actively engaged in several key sectors for sustainable development and the promotion of peace:

- Community development and poverty alleviation.

- Formal and informal education.

- Community health and humanitarian response.

- Environmental protection and climate justice.

- Food security and sustainable agriculture.

Our Areas of Intervention

SELP operates across several key sectors to address the needs of the most vulnerable communities in the DRC. From peacebuilding to community health, education, food security, environmental protection, and humanitarian emergency response, our actions aim for a sustainable, inclusive, and people-centered impact.

Peacebuilding (Peace and Security)

Training in human rights, GBV (gender-based violence), transitional justice, conflict resolution, and the empowerment of demobilized youth.

Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture

Agricultural training, livestock farming, promotion of agri-business, and community nutrition.

Environmental Protection

Environmental education, waste management, ecological restoration, and awareness on ecocide.

Education (Formal and Informal)

Support for schooling, functional literacy, and vocational training for youth and adults.

Community Health and Humanitarian Emergencies

Health prevention, WASH, community counseling, psychosocial support, and emergency humanitarian assistance.

Our Areas of Intervention

SELP operates primarily in conflict-affected zones in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri.

Our actions cover both urban and rural areas, adapting to the specific realities of local communities.

Some Achievements

Since its creation, SELP has been actively working on the ground to promote peace, support education, strengthen community resilience, and fight poverty in all its forms. Through targeted actions and strong partnerships with various local and international stakeholders, SELP has made a positive impact on many communities, particularly in conflict-affected areas of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Here are some flagship projects that illustrate our commitment and the tangible results of our interventions.

Peacebuilding Project: Youth Action for Peace (YAPP)

Kalehe Territory, South Kivu

Actions

Training of 118 young people (girls, boys, and demobilized youth), creation of 10 youth groups for solidarity initiatives, capacity-building in conflict management, and support for entrepreneurship and agriculture.

School and Vocational Reintegration for Children and Youth

Areas

Walikale, Nyiragongo and Goma

Actions

Five catch-up education centers and three secondary schools, welcoming vulnerable children, demobilized youth, and former child laborers from mining sites.

650 boys, 720 girls, 120 adult women, and 50 adult men.

Demobilized Youth Support and Food Security Promotion Project

Areas

Walikale, Masisi, Kalehe

Actions

Vocational training, trauma recovery sessions, promotion of good agricultural practices, and livestock farming (fish, goats, sheep, and poultry).

Community Awareness and Mobilization Projects

- Dissemination of protection mechanisms for youth, women, and children in conflict situations.

- Participation in the development of the Provincial Operational Plan for the implementation of Resolution 2250 in North Kivu.

- Organization of intergenerational community dialogues for inclusive peace.

- Community awareness campaigns on epidemic prevention and transitional justice.
